5/1 @ Quad Cities
The Hawks play their first double-header this season because of Sunday’s rainout. Oddly enough, it is raining right now in Davenport. We have still not seen the sun since arriving a late Saturday.

4/24 vs. WIS
Sorry for the lack of updates of late. I will try my best to avoid similar lulls in the future. I will provide daily updates from Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities on the upcoming road trip. The offense has come alive of late, and that is certainly a good sign. Let’s see if the Hawks can get their first sweep of the season tonight.

4/9 vs. FW
Last night was a very clean with for the Hawks… a few things that stood out.
Jesse Darrah pitched very confidently… he seemed in control all night, even when the TinCaps got their lone run off him in the first inning. Darrah really settled in during innings two and three. He retired the TinCaps six-up, six-down and the ball never left the infield.
Big Inning: The fourth inning was South Bend’s biggest inning this season as they posted four runs on four hits and eight men came to the plate. Bobby Stone and Roidany Aguila showed off their power, particularly Aguila who hit his to the opposite field.
Great crowd: The crowd last night was terrific. The attendance of 4,033 is the Silver Hawks larges since a crowd of 4,631 watched the Silver Hawks on July 8 of last year. At last year’s home opener on April 11, the paid attendance was 1,627.
We’ll have game notes and an update later.
J.R. Bradley makes his 2012 debut tonight at The Cove.

Pitching probables
The players arrived in earnest today and with so many returning players everyone seemed very comfortable with each other and with South Bend. Not a total surprise, considering a good chunk of the team either played together in Missoula or South Bend last season. Needless to say, it was a good sign from a “team chemistry” standpoint.
The team got its uniforms and were introduced to the Hawks Front Office. After that they had batting practice followed by a simulated game. I have posted pictures of said game below.
A few of the pitchers who tossed in the simulated game were J.R. Bradley and Jesse Darrah — Jesse is slated to start the Monday home opener and Bradley has the Tuesday tilt vs. Fort Wayne. So pitching today keeps both of them on schedule. And that brings me to the topic at hand… the tentative pitching probables for this weekend. Is “tentative pitching probables” an oxymoron? Don’t think so… just redundant I think.
Thursday: RHP Archie Bradley
Friday: RHP Jeffrey Shields
Saturday: LHP John Pedrotty
Sunday: Off
Monday: RHP Jesse Darrah
Tuesday: RHP J.R. Bradley
Again, subject to change, and if it does … you will be the first to know.
A self-promotional programming note. Thursdays game — and all games for that matter — can be found here. I will also post a link in the blog. You can also click “Multimedia / Silver Hawks Broadcasts” on http://www.silverhawks.com. Whatever floats your boat, really.
Dbacks Prospect Watch: Jesse Darrah
Good morning…
Did anyone set their alarm to watch Oakland and Seattle in Japan (currently in the 10th inning)? I did not…
A few notes:
They are currently installing carpeting upstairs in the soon-to-be team offices.
The ownership group that purchased the L.A. Dodgers for a record-setting $2 billion, includes Magic Johnson and Peter Guber, who are partners in the Dayton Dragons of the MWL…

Today’s prospect of choice is right-hander Jesse Darrah, an 8th Rd. selection in last year’s draft out of NAIA Fresno Pacific. According to Baseball America, his fastball sits 90-94 MPH and he has a good change up and curve ball to go along with a slider. His release point is high three-quarters. Also this from BA…
He projects as a back-of-the rotation starter and will make the jump to [South Bend] in 2012…
Last season with Missoula, Darrah went 5-2 with a 4.55 ERA in 14 appearances and 11 starts. He struck out 68 in 59 IP (10.3 K/9) and opponents hit .252 against him.
Darrah doesn’t have quite the fanfare that Archie Bradley does, but the future looks bright for both. And if BA is correct, both may begin 2012 at The Cove. We shall see.
